Instrument separation during root canal treatment is a procedural complication that can compromise disinfection, complicate treatment planning, and increase clinician stress. Successful management requires accurate diagnosis, understanding of canal anatomy, case selection, and mastery of contemporary retrieval and bypass techniques. This workshop provides a clinically oriented, evidence-based roadmap for preventing, assessing, and managing separated instruments. Participants will review the mechanical causes of file fracture, risk factors related to metallurgy and canal morphology, and the role of magnification and cone-beam computed tomography in decision-making. Step-by-step protocols for ultrasonic retrieval, microtube techniques, and bypass strategies will be demonstrated, with emphasis on safety, dentin preservation, and prognosis.
